Fira and Firó de Sóller
The second Sunday of May is the day of "Sa Fira" and the following day is "Es Firó", one of the best known popular festivals in Mallorca. It commemorates the arrival of Turkish and Algerian corsairs to the port of Sóller on May 11, 1561, which led to a bloody battle with the inhabitants of the town, who took to the streets to defend the town. Among firecrackers, loud booms and bangers, the "sollerics" relive this historical event, which ends in victory for the Christians.
